‘My advice’ – BBC pundit tells Celtic star wanted by Tottenham to follow Liverpool legend Virgil van Dijk’s career path

Celtic have a number of players wanted by English Premier League clubs.

It wasn’t too long ago players like Celtic duo Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi were being linked with moves away from Celtic Park to the Premier League and now, it seems that another player who is destroying defences in Scotland is being told to make the big move to England.

Nicolas Kuhn told big transfer move from Celtic won’t happen right away

Nicolas Kuhn was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur just before the New Year [TBR] with a price tag of £30m being floated for the German winger.

But it seems a move to a big club in England is not going to happen just yet after Pat Nevin cites the career path of former Celtic hero Virgil van Dijk as proof of that.

Nevin told talkSPORT BET, “Sadly, the way it works when looking for a transfer across the border from Scotland to England is that you have to look at the bottom half of the Premier League.

Virgil van Dijk is the best example of this. You’re not going to get the move to one of the relatively big clubs from Celtic, regardless of how well you’re performing.

“Teams outside the top half might look to secure a deal for Nicolas-Gerrit Kühn with a plan to keep him for a couple of years and then sell him on to one of the bigger clubs for a profit; it’s a model we’ve seen many times in the Premier League.”

Pat Nevin’s Virgil van Dijk Liverpool ‘advice’ for Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn

“My advice to the clubs would be to go in for him,” said Nevin, “I said the same for Van Dijk when he was at Celtic – I even tried to convince Chelsea to move for him!

“At the same time, there’s no guarantee that Kühn would be a massive success in the Premier League because only a few players from the Scottish Premiership are.

“For the remainder of this season, he has to get his head down and be playing at the highest level he can every week. He needs to avoid a drop in performances for a few weeks because the English clubs will notice that; consistency is the key.”

Kuhn is unlikely to leave Celtic any time soon as he starts to become an integral part of Brendan Rodgers’ side this season.

Scoring goals for fun, Kuhn will undoubtedly attract suitors but, for now, the German winger is likely to stay at Celtic Park as the Hoops chase Champions League glory and another domestic treble.
