Match Day Celtic Park

Footage emerges of Rangers fans’ cowardly sectarian abuse towards Celtic midfielder Arne Engels

Rangers fans’ and sectarianism go hand in hand, especially when there is a game that involves Celtic.

The New Year Glasgow Derby between Celtic and Rangers was marred by sectarian singing from the Ibrox support off the park but it was not a good day on it for the Hoops fans.

Philippe Clement’s side ran out 3-0 winners but their joy was short-lived as Rangers have bottled their last two games since.

But it was the sectarianism from the Ibrox support on that day that was largely ignored by the Scottish media just like this footage of Arne Engels will be as well.

Celtic’s Arne Engels’ subjected to cowardly sectarian abuse from Rangers fans

Sectarianism at Ibrox is rife. The Rangers fans will deny it and claim that hate-filled bigoted songs are not sung but we’re not deaf.

We’re also not completely surprised that Celtic’s players were targeted with the abuse either but right after Engels was hit by a coin, this happened:

Cries of ‘Die ya fenian b-st-rd’ can clearly be heard being screamed by a bitter no-mark from the crowd. It makes you sad these morons are going to be allowed back into Celtic Park for the next one.

In a way, you can understand their anger. Celtic’s trophy history is rich with success whilst they have scraped into second almost every season from the year 2000.

Their pain is superb, and undoubtedly there will be much more of this as the season wears on. Especially when they keep pulling off so many poor results.
