The pressure is on Rangers boss Philippe Clement this week as Celtic opened up a 13-point gap at the top of the table.
Celtic beat St Mirren after Rangers bottled it at Easter Road against Hibs and in just three days, all the positivity from the Glasgow Derby win has evaporated from the Ibrox support.
As Celtic fans look forward to the visit of Dundee United, the Rangers support will be dreading the trip to Tayside to face Dundee but not as much as Philippe Clement.
Clement’s Rangers doesn’t ‘have that money’ to chase Celtic
The Rangers manager was asked about the January transfer window and if he can strengthen his squad to challenge Celtic when Clement suggested that there may not be any funds.
The Rangers manager said, “For the moment with injuries and everything, but there’s also the situation of the club. You need to pay it also, and I’m not the one who can pay that. I don’t have that money.”
And it seems that that comment has earned Clement a rap on the knuckles with instructions on how he must conduct his press conference duties in the future.
That’s according to one of Phil Mac Giolla Bhain’s ‘well-placed sources’ within Ibrox.
In his latest blog, Phil said, “Today, I spoke with a well-placed source from the Ibrox firmament. He related the broad outline of a dignified sit down between dear Philippe and the new CEO, Paddy Stewart.
“The latter made it clear to the blamestorming Belgian that there should be no more going off script in press conferences.
“Indeed, the narrative had to be approved beforehand with no solo runs. Specifically, he wasn’t to answer any questions about budgets or transfer business unless authorised beforehand.”
The meltdown behind the scenes at Ibrox is class as the reality of the bigger picture of trying to chase Celtic really starts to sink in.
As for poor Phil, he can’t even speak his mind without the suits at Ibrox telling him what he can and can’t say. Compare that to Brendan Rodgers’ stature at Celtic, that must hurt the Ibrox boss.
