Rangers dying is the biggest single event to happen in Scottish football after Celtic winning the European Cup.
The EBT scandal and side letters as well as the trouble with HMRC helped end over 100 years of history of the Ibrox club in 2012.
Less than six months later, the new club Sevco was born and they now play out of the stadium that Glasgow Rangers once used to.
But it seems that the liquidation of Rangers could have been avoided as a bout of hindsight hit HMRC as they admitted one thing to Craig Whyte they should have done to avoid the Ibrox club out of business.
HMRC should have ‘done a deal’ with Celtic’s rivals
Whyte was the man the Scottish media crowned as a self-made billionaire who was going to save Rangers from going to the wall.
After buying Rangers for £1, it became clear that they couldn’t be saved after HMRC’s hardline stance and it was one that they seemed to regret after Rangers died.
Whyte said (Craig Campbell SEO), “The end outcome assuming that the tax authorities refused to do a deal which they did, although they did say later after the disaster of the insolvency process of Rangers the main guy at HMRC did say ‘Oh we should have done a deal’.
“Which I told him many times that he should have done a deal and they didn’t want to know but then I said that the administration was going to be a disaster and we should avoid doing it in this uncontrolled way.
“But they didn’t want to listen.”
The fact that the original Rangers could have been saved and died anyway will come as a source of great amusement to the Celtic supporters.
The new season is well underway now and The Banter Years just keep on rolling!
