Celtic target, Scott McKenna

‘Unless’ – Paul John Dykes tells what he knows about Celtic’s ‘interest’ in Scott McKenna

The lack of transfers at Celtic could be a concern amongst the Hoops support but as yet, from what I can see, the vast majority are quite calm at the moment.

With the players returning for pre-season training this week, excitement will start building towards Celtic’s 2024/25 fixtures and the defence of the title as well as the Champions League group stages.

However, with millions of pounds burning their pockets, Celtic have made no movement despite links to various players across Europe.

One player who has historically been linked to Celtic is free agent Scotland defender, Scott McKenna.

And whilst there has been no official interest reported there has been lots of rumour and speculation.

And today, Paul John Dykes of A Celtic State of Mind confirmed that the Parkhead club were interested but there is one huge issue that is preventing a deal from happening.

Dykes said (A Celtic State of Mind), “Yes, there was interest by Celtic, but the big issue at the moment is the fact that he’s actually accustomed to a wage in the high thirties weekly.

“So you’re looking at that initially as an issue, but on top of that, he’s expecting the fact that he’s a free agent would allow the football club to aggregate £3.5m of a transfer fee into his wages.

“So wherever he goes, he’s gonna be on a bumper pay packet, and it’s not something that Celtic’s gonna pay out.

“You’re not gonna be paying £40,000 a week for Scott McKenna. Some people reckon that it will be a case of Copenhagen being interested, but by all accounts, they’re not interested either, having, I think, seen him in 16 games last season.”

”Unless McKenna brings his wage demands down, it’s not gonna happen.”

Celtic will simply not pay a player who has done the square root of nothing in terms of winning trophies in the same bracket as our captain.

Like Dykes, I also believe that’s not going to happen. So McKenna has a choice to make.

Get the money he wants and settle for an English Championship side and win nothing, or take a pay cut, still get handsomely paid and win trophies at Celtic and play in the Champions League.

It’s a genuine no-brainer decision. Well for most folk it is.

  1. he would be a bad risk he is a player grabber, draws fouls all day long and also a money grabber
