“I’m done” – Why Celtic must end the Luis Palma ‘experiment’ till next season

Luis Palma of Celtic

This is not the first time that Luis Palma has left the Celtic fans feeling frustrated this season.

The Honduran winger started off his Celtic career well and was providing goals and assists regularly. Even at the Champions League level.

However, over the past few weeks he has gone off the boil. And it couldn’t have come at a worse time for Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Trailing Rangers by two points in the league, Rodgers needs all his players to be firing on all cylinders and Palma, at the moment is just not producing the goods.

And Kevin Graham of A Celtic State of Mind believes Palma needs to be dropped to the bench until next season.

Nicolas Kuhn must be given his Celtic chance

A £3m January buy, Kuhn himself has failed to deliver from what we have seen of him and Kevin thinks he must be given his chance against Livingston on Sunday.

Graham said, (A Celtic State of Mind) “I would bring Daniel Kelly into the middle of the park for Bernardo. Because I struggle to see what Bernardo has brought since his wee purple patch in January.

“And on the wing it’s is just a toss-up. I think our wingers are really, really poor.

“I would go for Kuhn because Rodgers thought he had a chance. That’s why Rodgers signed him.

“I’m done with the [Luis] Palma experiment until next season. He came on and did alright against Motherwell but I think for me that’s the two changes.

“He won’t bring in Kyogo in to play the two up front. He’s more likely to go with Palma and Maeda. Midfield, I think Daniel Kelly deserves a shot.”

In a way, I can see where Kevin is coming from. Palma has been really inconsistent this season.

Although he’s hit nine goals and ten assists this season, prior to the Motherwell game, the Honduran never made a significant contribution in the league since his Boxing Day goal against Dundee. [Transfermarkt]

Whilst his goal against Buckie Thistle and assist against St Mirren in the previous rounds of the Scottish Cup are welcome, Palma really must start producing the goods in the SPFL.

Will Kuhn get his chance against Livingston tomorrow? It’s unlikely but it seems the jury is still very much out on the German winger.

  1. Kuhn is a waste of a Jersey and has the heart of a mouse against SPL defenders. Refuses to take on his man and passes back inside. At least Palma has an end product ans goal threat about him. His work rate needs to improve though.
