I have written about this subject before on this site.
Referees. Abjectly poor at their jobs week in week out, and yet the pundits in the Scottish media simply refuse to take them to task.
This caller on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard phoned the show after the 6-1 hammering of Hibs to make the point that referee, Steven McLean had a shocker of a game despite the result and the replies to his point from Keevins and the pundits, and the host of the show Gordon Duncan, just sum up how our fans are viewed in the media.
Have a listen:
So if we cannot question the referees performance after a comprehensive win, then when can we?
Should we just ignore the fact that McLean had a terrible game and despite his best efforts, he couldn’t stop us being rampant?
Or do we just wait until a performance like that costs us points and we look like we are being paranoid.
It’s responses to calls like this that get right on my nerves about these pundits.
Duncan said to the fan during the call that he had every right to come on and make that point about the ref whilst simultaneously deriding him for it.
It’s a perfect example of the media in Scotland telling the Celtic fans to be quiet when you are winning and stop being paranoid when you are losing.
