Chris Sutton trolls Gerrard as he swipes at Postecoglou ‘sneers’

Chris Sutton was in no mood to take any prisoners in his column in the Daily Record was he?

He seemed a tad upset as he took a massive swipe at the ‘snobbery’ in English football when they looked at the appointment of the Aussie to the Celtic top job.

Sutton is forever defending the Scottish game from all quarters in England and he was taking no prisoners when he said, “People sneered when he [Postecoglou] took the job because his background was winning championships in countries such as Australia and Japan.

That’s not taken seriously in some quarters, but I don’t see why.

“The guy had led his country in the Finals of a World Cup. He had club trophies on the board.

“Let me put it this way, Aston Villa needed a manager when they decided to get rid of Dean Smith and they went for Steven Gerrard.

“How many trophies had Gerrard won as a manager? One. How many times had he managed at a World Cup? None.”

Love it.

Although Sutton does claim he wasn’t specifically having a dig at Gerrard in his column, he makes an excellent point.

A former England international spends close to £40m in three seasons and wins one trophy in Scotland seems to be lauded more than an experienced international manager who has overseen one of the biggest rebuilding jobs in Celtic’s history.

Incredible isn’t it?
