The Europa League tweet that shows Celtic were short changed in January transfer deal

Now look, before we get started, I’m not saying Josip Juranovic was a World class defender by any manner of means.

The Croatian had a great World Cup and helped his country to third spot in the tournament. Add that to a stunning performance against Brazil, Juranovic really put himself in the shop window with his performances.

Many said he only really performed in the Brazil game and the £10m Celtic will eventually receive is about right for the player.

OK, but since his arrival at Union Berlin, he has helped keep the club on the coat tails of Bayern Munich in the race for the title and also helped Union Berlin keep in with a chance of reaching the Europa Leage last 16.

Still not convinced we should have got more than £10m for him?

Then take a look at this tweet from UEFA which reminds us that he is also a dead ball expert:

I wouldn’t go as far as saying we were robbed by selling him for £10m but we should have pushed for, and got, more than the original fee.

Ange’s breaks silence with outstanding comments on departed Celtic star

Ange is well documented as being a manager that doesn’t get too close to the players.

He himself admitted that it’s not that important to him and that he likes to maintain professional boundaries so that when the time comes to let them go, he is not influenced in matters of the head by his heart.

But that doesn’t mean he will not appreciate the contributions they give when they serve under him.

Speaking on Celtic TV, Ange said of Josip Juranovic, “HE WAS CERTAINLY A POPULAR MEMBER OF THE GROUP AND HE WILL BE MISSED.

“BUT AS I SAID ON THE WEEKEND, WITH ALL OF US, WHAT THE ULTIMATE MEASURE IS OUR CONTRIBUTION WHILE WE’RE HERE, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE TIME SPAN.

“HE CAME TO US IN A VERY IMPORTANT YEAR FOR THIS FOOTBALL CLUB, I THOUGHT AND HE WAS A MASSIVE CONTRIBUTOR ON AND OFF THE PARK, TO OUR SUCCESS.

“HE CONTINUED THAT THIS YEAR, AND MOVES ON NOW TO ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY.

Josip was, clearly, a good guy to have in the dressing room but as the Celtic manager has shown, there is no sentimentality when it comes to letting players go in order to strengthen the team.

Football Scotland’s latest Juranovic story is lazy journalism at it’s best

If we are all really honest with ourselves, we can all concede that it looks ever likely that Josip Juranovic is heading out the door this winter. Or the summer at the very latest.

So when Football Scotland came out with this headline:

You think, ‘Yes! It looks like he could be staying!’ Right?

Well, kind of……not.

Because the source of the story is not the player, or the agent, or even someone at the club.

Hell, at this point, I’d take a quote from Jura’s granny above the personal that this article decided to go with.

It was none other than Frank McAvennie.

Yep. You read that right.

From a guy that claimed Celtic would probably need to sell Jota to keep Kyogo and O’Riley and absolutely slated Ralston last season when the right back was in a rich vein of form, we are supposed to listen to him on this.

McAvennie is a footballing dinosaur. His opinion is not taken seriously by any Celtic fan so for a qualified journalist to do a straight copy and paste from the click-bait site of Football Insider is just ludicrous.

Not a single bit of analysis was offered on what McAvennie said, “It is not just Celtic. I think every club is a selling club now. It does not make any difference what contract he is on. If someone comes in and the right money is offered, he will be gone.

“If they are offering him a new contract now he should take it. Then Celtic are going to get more money out of it. It is a win-win for the player. If he has got respect for Celtic, and I think he does, then he will sign the contract.”

Absolute nonsense from Frank. Football isn’t like what it was in his day. Money is long. Not loyalty or respect.

The modern day footballer looks after themselves, and so they should, but to claim Juranovic is ‘tipped’to sign a contract based on that flimsy quote is, for me, rank rotten ‘churnalism’ and is best ignored by all Celtic fans.

Mark Hendry: Contract could potentially be agreed

All the headlines and speculation this morning was surrounding the future of Celtic right back Josip Juranovic.

Stephen McGowan iof The Scottish Daily Mail said the club would be prepared to sell the Croatian after the World Cup after contract negotiations broke down.

The news hit the Celtic world by storm with many fans nonplussed on whether or not the Croatian stays or goes.

But Mark Hendry tweeted an update tonight and it seems that all may not be lost as the club could still look to secure Juranovic’s long term future:

I suppose it all depends on whether or not Juranovic sees his future at Celtic at the end of the day.

He has been no stranger to speculation and was tipped to leave the club in the summer with reports of Atletico Madrid keen on taking him to La Liga.

If he does have a good World Cup, I would bank on Juranovic leaving the club sooner rather than later.

It would be disappointing but we do have an able deputy in Anthony Ralston and I am sure Ange Postecoglou will have planned for this eventuality as he did hint towards players moving on the clubs recent AGM.

“I have a feeling” – Mark Guidi on Fabrizio Romano Celtic rumour

The Josip Juranovic story was one that sneaked up behind us all with steel toe caps and booted us right in the balls didn’t it?

Fabrizio Romano took us all off guard with his Juranovic tweet and whilst many tried to ridicule it, most of us that know the Italians knowledge of transfers got worried.

But how worried should we be?

Scotlands own Romano (I am CLEARLY joking so calm down), Mark Guidi had his say on The Go Radio Football Show and what he said will be a relief to the Celtic support, “I mean, I can totally understand why there’s interest in him because he was terrific. I think missed the last few weeks of the season with injury , but he certainly looked the part.

I think we’d all agree, approximately two and a half million pound transfer fee is a bargain.

Again, another one of the Postecoglou success stories in the transfer market. I think Celtic will be loath to let him go.

But it does fit their model of buying at two or three million and sell for 12, 15, 18 millions pounds or whatever you can get.

So it very much fits in with what Celtic are trying to do that.

That said, this summers a bit different for the club because they are guaranteed Champions League income so they don’t need to sell.

Again, these things as well depends how much the player wants to push for an exit, if at all.

We don’t know, Juranovic hasn’t said anything in public.

So I have a feeling, and we’ve still got nine/ten weeks of the transfer window to go, I think Juranovic will stay.

I can’t see him going. But you never know.”

We all kind of knew that anyway. Juranovic has the opportunity to play Champions League football and win trophies at a huge club.

He’s going nowhere. Yet.
