Celtic fans shares footage of Ibrox penalty incident that will embarrass John Beaton and the VAR team

The penalty Rangers were awarded at Ibrox in the 3-3 draw against Celtic will make headlines all week.

Already we have seen the likes of Chris Sutton and various other pundits in the game get upset with just how badly John Beaton handled the situation.

Because with VAR, these kinds of mistakes should be a thing of the past, right?

Apparently not. Even with all those cameras and professional referees looking at the screens and poring over replay after replay, the SFA officials still can’t seem to get it right.

Which makes the footage posted below slightly embarrassing for John Beaton and his colleagues in the VAR room.

Now why is this embarrassing for the SFA officials? From the footage above, you can clearly see Alistair Johnston getting the ball before Fabio Silva falls over his leg.

If Celtic fans cast their mind back to the game, VAR seemed to neglect to show that part when the shouted Beaton over to review the Ibrox footage.

So my question is this. If a Celtic fan can post better footage of a major flashpoint in a crucial SPFL match on a smartphone, why can’t VAR do the exact same thing considering how much money it costs?

So I take back my original statement. It’s not John Beaton and his colleagues who should be embarrassed.

It’s the national association and the joke of a refereeing technology they are serving up to the paying football fan.
