Why is the Scottish media encouraging dressing room conflict at Celtic?

Saturday’s 0-0 result has opened up a huge can of worms at Celtic.

Not the result in itself, but the media’s agenda against the club has been exposed for the underhanded charlatans that they are.

Ever since Ange Postecoglou arrived in Scotland, the media have treated him with nothing but contempt.

The Celtic manager referred to it himself in a pre match conference (as written by Vital Celtic) when he said, ““The only thing that I don’t sort of like is the condescending nature of the questions that somehow I don’t understand that if we don’t win games of football or  don’t understand the magnitude of the football club that somehow I’m in charge of this sort of rebuild and I’ve got no idea what the ramifications are if I don’t get it right.

“And maybe that’s the intent. Maybe people just want to be condescending.

“If the intent is to be condescending towards me and who I am in my career, then I guess they’re achieving their point.

“I guess my point about all that is that, I’m not going to change my approach because people keep talking about the fact that there’s pressure and it’s Celtic.“

So have the media changed their tact? I think so.

Over the course of the last few days we have seen the media’s reaction to the missed penalty by Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The Greek forward was NOMINATED as the penalty taker before the game as per Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou’s instructions.

The managers instructions. Now for many, that’s the end of it. There is no debate. No dubiety. Nothing else to add.

Unless it’s Celtic.

There have been two major radio stations over the course of the last couple of days that have suggested that the Celtic captain, Callum McGregor should have overruled Postecoglou’s instructions and told Juranovic to take the penalty instead.

Their reasoning? Because Giakoumakis was having a bad game.

Hugh Keevins started this insane chat on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, immediately after match when reviewing the game. He said, “Again, I bow to the three pros. But if I look at a guy who’s having an awful afternoon, I think Callum McGregor is entitled to say, “Listen, Juranovic should take it.”

On the BBC Sportsound podcast last night, a similar narrative was being spun by the pundits as they suggested the exact same thing.

Is that reason enough for the captain to overrule his manager on the field of play? And could you imagine the fallout if he did?

In fact, never mind that. Imagine if McGregor did overrule his manager and Juranovic missed. They would think all Christmases would have come at once.

They would have had a field say with it. And maybe that’s the point.

The Scottish press can be poisonous. An article was written about when Mark Warburton first arrived in Glasgow where he revealed just how toxic the press can be in Glasgow. You can read it here and you won’t be surprised at what he said.

Which makes perfect sense. They can’t get to the manager. The manager takes none of the media’s claptrap so they have to find another way to try and undermine him.

Am I being cynical? I don’t think so.

Look at it this way. Have the media ever tried to undermine the Ibrox manager so publicly?
