We need to talk about Andy Goram

Celtic Park

You know, I’ve steered clear of this for a while now.

When the news broke that Goram was dying of cancer and only had six months to live there were a lot of people genuinely upset at the news and others that, although celebrating is probably a bit dramatic, we shall call it they were indifferent at the news.

Not because they wished the man any ill will, but because they knew of Gorams past and wanted nothing to do with him.

But over the last two days the Scottish media have tried to white wash Gorams murky past with links to loyalists and also tried to airbrush the fact that he was a self confessed sectarian bigot.

This latest offering from Belfast Live is where I draw the line:

Now, let’s not forget that back in 2012, Tom English wrote a piece on Goram and his sordid past where English recounts Gorams own book where he described an altercation with former Celtic striker Pierre van Hojidonk as “Taking this trip down memory lane, Goram said that once he’d beaten away the Dutchman’s effort he went to Van Hooijdonk and, paraphrasing in the telling of the story, called him a “non-white, unclean, non-Protestant with no father”.

Tom also lists Gorams history with his well known and well publicised links with members of the UVF here.

Now I’m not going to kick the man when he is down. Far from it. But surely to God we are not buying this whole whiter than white nonsense are we?

Please, don’t insult our intelligence.

Don’t just take my word for it:

There’s not really much to add to that there now.
