The Celtic managerial job is really grabbing the headlines this week. With loads of candidates linked to the job and a couple of them already been interviewed, you could say that we are getting closer to the day where we find out who is going to succeed Ange Postecoglou.
One of the favourites, Enzo Maresa seems to be a popular choice for the board. But journalist Tom English has warned that he may not be the perfect candidate after rhyming off some alarming stats regarding the Italian.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound, English said, “On Maresca, he is currently the even-money favourite. I understand the politics of this. Maresca, I looked at his record.
“So his first kind of coaching job was at Ascoli. He was an assistant there, he was 173 days in the job. He then moved to Seville where he was an assistant. He was 119 days in that job.
“He became technical coach at Seville and he was 62 days in that job. He went to West Ham, 547 days in that job as assistant to David Moyes. Man City under 23 Manager, 271 days.
“Parma he was the manager, 180 days and he’s been in his current role since July last year.
“This is a guy that doesn’t stick around for one reason or another. He has no managerial experience bar 14 games and he got the sack. It’s a massive, massive risk.”
Stability is what Celtic need right now. Not a journeyman. Will Maresca be able to offer that to us?
Or is it just the case that he has never found the right club to settle at?
Whatever it is, if the Celtic board do decide to hire him they had better be damned sure of their choice as we don’t want to be in this position in less than a year’s time.
