“This obviously has come from the manager and the hierarchy at Celtic” – John Hartson drops latest on Celtic expected transfer departure

The Giorgos Giakoumakis story is one that will continue to baffle me.

He is probably the best striker we have ever had that cannot seem to force his way into the side.

And, to be honest, there’s not really much else he can do as he is battling against a Kyogo Furuhashi who is proving to be deadly in front of goal this season.

At 27 years old, Giakoumakis is at an age where he needs first team football and one last pay day, and it seems he might get his wish as he is widely expected to leave the club in January.

And John Hartson can’t believe the club are willing to let go the proven goalscorer.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Hartson said, “If he is away and he’s been given the green light or his agent has been given the green light to find him a club, I think there’ll be many, many clubs that will be interested.

Because he’s he’s been exceptional at Celtic. I can’t get my head around it. Listen, this obviously has come from the manager and the hierarchy at Celtic that he’s not part, if this is all true, I can see him going to a very good club.

Even in the Championship.

There’s some top end clubs in the Championship.

I still believe there’s a lot of room in the game still, for a target man that scores goals.”

Hartson seemed to stop himself there before he gave too much away but one thing is for sure. We should be looking for more than the £7m that is being quoted by the press.
