“They just haven’t delivered” – Trusted journalist makes Postecoglou Champions League ‘food for thought’ claim on Kyogo and Giakoumakis

What the Champions League journey so far has taught us is that Celtic need to be more clinical in front of goal.

Of that there is no question.

Over 50 chances created and only two converted is a bitter sweet stat for Ange Postecoglou.

Bitter in the fact that the spotlight has been firmly put onto the strike force that is normally so potent in front of goal and sweet in the way that at least this shows the team can carve out chances against some of Europe’s best teams.

So what does Ange do?

Keep persevering with Kyogo and GG or bite the bullet and do what journalist, David Friel suggests?

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, when asked if he understood Ange’s Champions League rant at the press in his post match press conference, Friel said, “I think it’s probably fair enough if you look at that body of evidence of Celtic’s four games.

The first game against Real Madrid, they were very competitive but missed chances. Shakhtar away they should have won the game, missed chances again. The first hour against Leipzig, missed chances again.

Leipzig, the other night, were the better team over the two games against Celtic and I think if their [Celtic’s] strikers had have been on it, they could easily be sitting on four or five points just now.

I think that’s the tale. It’s easy to understand how it’s all lumped together,

I think for Celtic the focus should be on their strikers because I just don’t think that they have delivered. I like Kyogo, I like Giakoumakis but at that level, with good chances, they just haven’t delivered.

And I think it’s probably going to give Ange Postecoglou food for thought going forward and if Celtic do get back to the Champions League, do they need better than that number nine position?

Can we really see Ange replacing Kyogo and Giakoumakis next season should we get into the group stages again?

It’s hard to see that happening. Both strikers have been red hot on domestic duty and it’s hard to argue with their goalscoring stats from this seasons campaign.

But replace them altogether?

Seems a bit bold, but with Ange, you just never know.
