“The Running Joke Amongst The Celtic Supporters” – Sutton’s Brutal Verdict on Hoops Star

As Celtic lick the wounds of last nights 1-1 draw with FC Midtjylland, there is also plenty to be positive about looking forward to the season for the Hoops fans.

The emergence of Liel Abada who Postecoglou post match was glowing in his praise, called him “bright and intelligent with his movement”. There was also the performane of Stephen Welsh, Ismael Soro and young Dane Murray gave the manager and the fans plenty of positives to discuss.

But Chris Sutton set his sights on Celtic’s blunder bhoy, Vasilis Barkas as the Greek internationals horrendous error cost the Hoops a victory against their Danish counteparts.

Speaking on Premier Sports, Sutton challenged how many opportunities Barkas is going to get and didn’t hold back in his criticism, “It’s about trust. How many more times? It’s the running joke among amongst the Celtic supporters that Barkas never made a save last season.

“In some ways it’s hard to argue with. A couple of saves at the weekend against Preston you thought will that give him confidence? But that’s a major error tonight”

And Sutton is correct. Not since Barkas signed have I witnessed the keeper make a save of any note. Not once have I seen him keep the ball from hitting the back of the net that saves the days.

I have, however, seen him pick the ball out the back of the net on plenty occasions and yes, I know not all goals he conceded were his fault but remember, he has not made a single save in a competitive match for Celtic.

So what does Postecoglou do now? Does he play Barkas next week in the away leg?

I’m afraid so, because, criminally, we simply don’t have anyone else.
