“The question I ask” – Andy Walker debates Celtic’s Champions League tactics

Celtic Park

It’s a tired old argument this.

And one that Ange Postecoglou has put to bed on many occasions.

The way Celtic play is not going to change. Ever.

Even when Ange has an injury list as long as his arm, he proved last season that he will not change his playing style regardless of the personnel he has at his disposal.

Celtic fans have long accepted this. I just wish journalists and pundits would too.

The latest to question Celtic’s European tactics is Andy Walker.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Walker said, “I think when I look at Celtic the questions that I ask are can Celtic get through a Champions League Group playing the way they do?

“I mean, I can’t believe Celtic haven’t scored more goals but equally I’m not surprised that they give goals away because they’re so open.

So they are creating chances against Real Madrid. They probably chucked a couple of points away in Poland again Shakhtar. I think they should have won that game.

They got back on level terms away to Leipzig. Do you then, you know, just shift the balance of the team and the way they play? But the answer there is no because I think every Celtic supporter is now accepting that Ange Postecoglou only wants to play one way.

And like it or lump it that’s the way he’s going to approach in the last couple of group games. And probably whatever European competition they have next season, it will be the way he approaches it then.

And the question is can Celtic can win this way?

Can they can you finish in the top two? I think it’s really difficult”

After just one attempt at the Champions League group stages with a brand new team, it seems as if the press and pundit’s are desperate to write off Ange Postecoglou’s style for Europe and it showed yesterday that the Celtic manager has finally lost patience with them.

He will not change it. Celtic fans do not want him to change it.

It’s time Walker and his ilk accepted it and embraced it.
