“He doesn’t want to stay at Celtic” – Pundit tips top Hoops departure soon

It’s not really a secret is it? With the much publicised public outburst of Kris Ajer in Norway’s media to his camp letting it he known that he isn’t happy at Celtic refusing bids from Norwich, Bayer Leverkusen and Brentford, the big central defender’s move just seems to be a story of not if, but when.

As reports circulate that Premiership new boys Brentford are about to offer £15m, one pundit reckons that Ajer is at the point where he is just desperate to move on.

Speaking to Football Insider, Allan Hutton says the deal will be done eventually, it’s just a matter of time, “My overall thinking of the whole thing is he’s desperate to go. He doesn’t want to stay at Celtic, from my point of view.

“Of course, Celtic want as much money as you can. That’s normal. That’s the business side of it.

“But if you’ve agreed a fee, the player wants to leave, it’s a lot of money we’re talking.

“Even if it’s £12-15million, if you can reinvest that in the squad, which they need to, that’s what’s more important.

“You get the player off the wages as well. I think it’s a deal that will get done eventually.

“Maybe they’re just trying to squeeze an extra couple of million out of Norwich or whoever it might be.

“I do think this is a transfer that will go through sooner rather than later.”

Ajer will clearly be hoping it’s sooner but move to Brentford? Really?

Maybe the big Norwegian has seen how moves to the relatively smaller clubs in England have benefited guys like Virgil Van Djik and Andy Robertson.

Maybe he’s hoping he can shine in one of the minnows to eventually earn his move to one of the top 6 clubs. Or maybe he’s just chasing the money instead of glory?

Celtic’s social media racism blackout started on Sunday night at Ibrox

We’ve all seen the video clip. We’ve all heard what was shouted but what we also all saw is that Rangers apparent “war” on racism is a sham. As was the media outrage after the “Kudela” incident.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I am 100% behind Glen Kamara and racism has no place in society, never mind in football.

But the biggest difference here is that whilst the balance of probability suggests that Kamara was racially abused, there was no hard proof.

There is, however, undeniable proof of anti Irish racist language used by a member of the Ibrox staff on Sunday after St Johnstone equalised with the last kick of the ball during extra time of the Scottish Cup fixture.

And the startling thing for me is that not one of our main stream media outlets, radio football shows or even our own club called it out. The media furore should have been equal to, if not greater than, that of the Kamara incident as it was after all, that very club that was the “victim”.

You cannot be selective in what racism you call out. It’s either all or nothing. Except when it comes to Scotland.

Anti Irish racism (or sectarianism) has been a cancer in our society for generations. All the while being swept away by the Scottish media and parliamentarians as unimportant. Our very own clubs silence on it has been equally shameful.

If one word in that sectarian shout at Ibrox on Sunday had been changed to black, Jewish or any other race or religion, could you imagine the uproar and outrage? But hey, as someone once famously said, “It’s just banter”.

At the time, it was one of the weirdest transfer stories to make the headlines in Scotland. Ben Davies was said to have agreed and signed a pre-contract agreement to come to Celtic in July from Preston North End.

The media hype and the fact that then Celtic gaffer, Neil Lennon, had spoken about the deal being done and it was met with relative excitement amongst the Hoops fans.

A few days later and an injury hit Liverpool come and take Davies from under Celtic’s noses when they paid a reported £1.6m to lure the big centre half to the Kop as The Reds looked to cover the central defensive issues due to injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez

Fast forward almost five months later and Davies is yet to appear in a Liverpool jersey as the move to the Premier League seems to be an ill fated error of judgement for the Englishman.

The Daily Express have reported that Jurgen Klopp is now close to sealing a £30m move for RB Leipzig’s 21 year old French defender Ibrahima Konte and have hinted that if the move is completed, this could pave the way for CEltic to reopen negotiations to finally bring Davies to Paradise.

With the central defence being a serious issue this season for the Hoops, bringing in Davies to help shore up the holes at the back will certainly be a step in the right direction for the Parkhead giants.
