Peruvian News Outlet Links Celtic To Incredible $9m Striker Move

This has to be the most outlandish story I have seen so far in this transfer window. One of those stories that’s simply not going to happen at Celtic for two reasons.

  1. The reported target is 31 years old
  2. See point 1

Libero Peru have linked the Hoops with a $9m (£1.7m) for Gianluca Lapadula. The media site tweeted out today:

Good morning, Peru!

A PERU IS WORTH Lapadula was valued at $ 9 million for the Benevento that has received concrete offers from Glasgow and Celtic. If the “Bambino” agrees to go to Scotland, he would play the Champions League.

Lapadula currently plays for Benevento Calcio in Italy’s second tier and scored just eight goals in 38 appearances for the Italians.

Having just returned from successful Copa America campaign where he helped the Peruvian national team finish fourth in the South American tournament after being knocked out in the semi final stage by Brazil.

Lapadula scored in the 3-2 loss to Colombia and the hitman was the tournaments top scorer with 4 goals.

There is no doubt the man has talent and quality following his showing in the Copa America but this type of signing just doesn’t fit the Celtic model of business.

With Odsonne Edouard expected to leave after Wednesday nights Champions League qualifier and Leigh Griffiths now an injury doubt for the opener against Hearts, Celtic only have Albian Ajeti as a recognised striker, reinforcements are clearly needed up top, but is Lapadula the right man for that job?
