Mark Guidi gives Postecoglou hint of who he will face in next Glasgow Derby dugout

Not that big Ange would particularly care, and it seems as though that’s the case after his comments over the last few days, but it would seem that he will know who he will face in the dugout for the Glasgow Derby in January by at least Tuesday next week.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Guidi seemed to know the inner workings of the Ibrox corridors as he laid out a timeline of when the next Govan manager will be announced after the club had sifted through “dozens” of applications. “It appears to be is the favourite [van Bronckhurst]. There seems to some suggestions that he would meet with the Rangers hierarchy this weekend for talks.

It just remains to be seen if Rangers have drawn up a shortlist and I think it would be down to Stewart Robertson, the MD, and Ross Wilson the Sporting Director to sift through all the applications.

There will be dozens of applications for the job.

To sift through them and then to go to Douglas Park, the Chairman, and say, ‘Here’s your shortlist. Choose the next Rangers manager from one of them.’

You want to meet them and that’s all happen. It may well be that Giovanni is a preferred candidate and they are not going to speak to anybody else.

But I would imagine, just to make sure that they’re covered, that they would speak to two or three people over the weekend.

And ideally, you have somebody in play by close of play Monday, ready to start working Tuesday ahead of that League Cup semi final against Hibs a week on Sunday.”

As I said, Postecoglou won’t be too bothered as he want’s to ensure his own house in order before he compares it to his neighbours so we will watch this story with some degree of fleeting interest.
