Japanese journalist rinses Moriyasu’s ‘level of league’ excuse for Kyogo’s exclusion of Japan national squad

On their way to Paradise

This is a great article from Japanese journalist, Sugiyama Shigeki.

As the Japan national team announcement hit the headlines in the country, there was a sense of perplexed confusion on the coach’s exclusion of Celtic pair Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate.

Both have been in superb form for the club this season and fully deserve the call from Hajime Moriyasu. As it is, the coach snubbed them both with the most bizarre excuse ever.

The ‘level of league’. An absolute nonsense and a cowardly way to just tell us all that he doesn’t fancy the players.

But his excuse was expertly taken apart by Sugiyama in his latest article.

Writing in Sportiva, Shigeki put across these great points:

Furuhashi’s three rivals are Asano, Ueda, and Machino. At the league level, Asano (Germany), Ueda (Belgium>> Furuhashi (Scotland) > Machino (Shonan/J.League) are in that order.

In the UEFA rankings, Germany is ranked 3rd, Belgium 8th and Scotland 9th. Bochum (Asano) is currently ranked 14th in Germany. Cercle Brugge (Ueda) sits in eighth place in the Belgian league. Celtic, on the other hand, have already clinched the title.

Asano has scored just one goal this season, while Ueda is Scotland’s top scorer with 13 (fourth in the league) and Furuhashi with 20.

In addition, Asano played 946 minutes, which is only 1701% of Furuhashi’s 55 minutes.

It must be said that Furuhashi is the one who surpasses the company in terms of performance.

To reiterate, Asano, Ueda and Machino were selected for the Qatar World Cup squad, but Furuhashi was not selected.

Even if Moriyasu’s review of Furuhashi is lower than Asano, Ueda, and Machino, Furuhashi should come first because of the principle of digging up fields. [his performances].”

A very simple but direct argument put forward that makes a mockery of Moriyasu’s explanation.

Kyogo’s time will come. As will Hatate’s but it may well need to wait until Moriyasu is removed from his position because it is clear that whilst he is in charge, he has no intentions of selecting either of them.
