“If that’s the way it is, fine, don’t use me.” – Celtic target’s incredible rant that changed his career

As Celtic are said to be in the mix to sign Japanese star Reo Hatate, a report [The Daily Record] surfaced today about how an incredible touchline rant was the catalyst to kick starting the full backs career.

Hatate’s former coach, Takumi Horiike, recalled an incident back in 2015 when, starring for Juntendo University, a touchline spat brewed betweem himself and the Hoops target, “One time we were playing a friendly against a J League team and Hatate made a run down the wing and cut inside.

One of his senior teammates was running at goal, and we were shouting at him to square it.

But he didn’t pass, tried to go all the way by himself and ended up shooting into the side netting from a tight angle.

“Next thing, while the game is still going on, he comes tearing up to the bench, howling, ‘Am I not allowed to shoot or what?’ at me, the coach, in front of everyone.

After a brief conversation and a dressing down, Hatate was told that he would not play if his lack of respect continued, the young Japanese star replied, “If that’s the way it is, fine, don’t use me.”

The coach recalled how he was taken aback at the attitude of Hatate but after a two hour chat IN A CAR. they had ironed out their differences and now the versatile player is on the brink of a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The interesting part of this story is the breakdown of Hatate’s strengths and weaknesses as Horiike explains, “But as well as solid technique, the physical side of his game has always been strong, plus he has decent speed and good defensive qualities.”

He seems an ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s style of play and going by this report, would also be well suited to the Scottish game.
