“I think it’s a strange sale personally” – John Hartson not convinced that next departure is the best move

Lisbon Lions Stand, Celtic Park

Giorgos Giakoumakis has caused quite a stir amongst the Celtic fans these last few months.

Rejecting a new contract has led to the big Greek striker now being told to find a new team and with Celtic wrapping up the signing of Oh this week, Ange certainly was quick off the mark to find his replacement.

But former Celtic striker John Hartson wasn’t convinced that this may be the best move all round.

And where he refused to criticise the manager, he did point out that we are losing a very good striker at the club.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Hartson said, “I think it’s a strange sale personally. I like him.

The fans absolutely idolise him. He’s not letting anybody down on the pitch.

I don’t know what’s happened, if anything’s happened off the pitch.

I think he’s been a really good signing. Fantastic signing and coming from the Eredivisie, a team that went down and he was top goal scorer that year.

But I wouldn’t question Ange. I would never question the manager simply because he’s got 99.9% of his decisions right.

And I think he’s managed Kyogo and Giakoumakis really well, just in terms of giving them game time.

I know Kyogo has been in a lot on the start of late, but I speak for the supporters as well.

No one’s gonna criticise the manager. Neither am I because he’s doing such a brilliant job.

But I speak for the fans when I say that there’s not one supporter out there that doesn’t rate Giakoumakis.

I would love to keep him but I’m not the Celtic manager.”

I kind of agree with big John. GG would be a superb back up option, at least until the summer. Get the league title in the bag, possible Treble, then let him go.

Going into the last half of the season with just Kyogo and an untried and untested striker is a huge gamble.

One I hope that pays off.
