But when Daizen Maeda’s goal was almost chalked off for offside against Hearts on Wednesday night, even though he was clearly onside, VAR done it’s job for once and awarded the goal.

But former Celtic star Frank McAvennie was damning in his criticism of the officials as VAR saved their skin.

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie said, You can understand when things like that happen all these conspiracy claims.

You start to question why. If there was no VAR that goal would not have counted and he was a yard onside. It is crazy.

People like that should not be referees or linesmen, that is just incompetence. There is no other word for it, it is just embarrassing.

People make mistakes but that was not even close. He was a yard onside so why he was flagged I do not know.

It can’t be anything else. Right?
