The worst kept secret in football is just about to be made official as Leicester City have reportedly agreed to buy Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard for £15m.
Reports in today’s media suggest an agreement has been made in principal to allow the Frenchman to team up with his old gaffer, Brendan Rodgers, as The Foxes boss aims to find a long term solution to the “Jamie Vardy” problem.
Vardy, now 34 years old, has been sensational form for Leicester and was a pivotal figure in helping them secure the English Premier League title in 2016, but with his best years behind him, Rodgers had identified Edouard as the ideal replacement and at £15m, he certainly has found a bargain.
Edouard has been a prolific success at Paradise and Celtic fans will be hoping that the money being recouped by the board will be invested straight back into the squad as incoming boss, Ange Postecoglou looks to rebuild the team in time for next season’s league and Champions League campaign.
After the deal is concluded, the big Aussie boss will be left with the headache of having only two recognised strikers at the club but with rumours of Leigh Griffiths possibly being moved on, could Celtic really begin the season with just one forward man?
Whatever is going to happen the supporters will be hoping that Celtic will have at least identified targets for the incoming manager as the clock is ticking towards the start of the new season.
