Davie Provan predicts Ibrox player revolt and wild £15m player valuation

As Rangers look to welcome new manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst to Ibrox, they could now need to start looking for some new first team stars.

As Gerrard jumped, to a seemingly, sinking financial ship, Provan said that there are some players who will now want to follow Gerrard and exit the club now that their gaffer has gone.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Provan was quite emphatic in this but then ruined the fun (or increased the laughter?) with his wild valuation of one of their rising stars, “There are Rangers players who will want out now because Steven Gerrard’s gone.

They are never going to say that publicly. But that’s how it works.

Some of these players were Steven Gerrard men, if you like. You know it’s a real tough situation to inherit, not least, because I don’t think Rangers financially are in a very good place.

Can they find the money without selling one or two other big hitters? Nathan Patterson or Ryan Kent.

Young Patterson’s an obvious one. I think that’s a no brainer. If Rangers can get, say £15 million for Nathan Patterson it would be hard to turn that down given that James Tavernier is the regular right back.”

Wow. £15m? For player that has won one trophy and only made a handful of appearances this season? Now I am not knocking Patterson. I think the lad has got some good potential to be a very good player.

But what has he done to merit such a wild valuation?

Let’s put it into context here. Kieran Tierney left Celtic for £25m. But that was after 242 appearances for the club, 11 goals and 46 assists!

Not to mention over 50 European appearances, 5 Scottish titles, 3 Scottish Cups and 3 League Cups.

It’s easy to throw that kind of valuation around, but Patterson has literally done nothing in the game yet to warrant this kind of valuation.
