With Celtic facing losing Odsonne Edouard this summer, the hunt for a striker will be a priority for Ange Postecoglou. With Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths not looking like to be in the plans moving forward, former Celtic midfielder Davie Provan reckons Griffiths is the man that should be given the chance to lead the Celtic front line again.
Speaking on Go Radio, Provan thinks if Griffiths gets himself fit and he should be looking to making a mark on the Celtic first team, “I might be completely wrong here, and for all I know, Leigh Griffiths is not determined to prove people wrong as he so often says.
“Maybe Leigh Griffiths is free wheeling now. Maybe he’s given up the ghost in terms of getting back into the team. Getting back to what he was.
“But I hope I’m wrong. I hope he’s still got it inside him.
“He’s 30 years of age. It’s still there for him. He is a better finisher and a better player than Ajeti. Edouard is going to leave the club.
“If I’m Leigh Griffith’s I’m saying there’s going to be an opening here. If I can get myself fit and get a bit of football, get some game time, I can do this again.
“There’s only one man who can prove that he’s still got it. I mean he’s like a boxer, isn’t it. He’s like a boxer who has written off. This is the Rocky story really isn’t it?
“Can Leigh Griffiths get back to what he should be? Only Leigh Griffiths can answer that.”
I think Provan has totally dropped the ball and missed the feelings of the Celtic fans on this matter. The Griffiths debate is no longer about his commitment and ability, it is now about his off field antics and the Hoops fans have had enough.
