“Couldn’t live with us” – Neil Lennon compares Class of 2003 to Ange’s Celtic

This is one of those conversations that’s along the lines of the ‘Is Kyogo the best since Larsson’ debates isn’t it?

As Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic keep their grip on domestic dominance, a treble beckons and now, comparisons are being made to Martin O’Neill’s team.

Neil Lennon was asked about this and the former Celtic manager and midfielder was unequivocal in his answer as to who he thought would be the best between the two.

Speaking on the PLZ Football Show, Lennon said, “No. Seriously no.

“Again, like it is a pub question and it’s like hypothetical and I get it. But you have to remember me, Sutty. Alan Thompson, John Hartson.

“We were all top players in the Premier League and we came this way. It wouldn’t happen now.

“It’s like Ange going down and buying James Maddison or Ivan Toney for £40-£50 million.

“That’s the bar that was set then.

“Rangers were bringing in Tugay, Tory Andre Flo, Stefan Klos, a  Champions League winner.

“We had Paul Lambert, a Champions League winner. We had Mjallby,  Henrik and Sutton. I think we’d be too powerful for them.

“If we were at our peak and Ange’s team was at their peak I think we would be too strong for them.”

It certainly makes for a great debate. The two teams are superb within their own right.

Would the constant pressing and fitness of Ange’s team be a match for the power of O’Neill’s Celtic defence and the finesse of Henrik Larsson?

So who do you think would win in a match between the two? Let me know in the comments.
