Celtic target told by boss to put himself in shop window

As Celtic are seemingly stepping up their efforts to strengthen the team in the January window, one of their targets, Lee Buchanan has effectively been told by his boss to play well and earn his big move.

Derby County manager, Wayne Rooney, was addressing the English media after the recent speculation linking his young left back to the Hoops and he has basically laid down the gauntlet to his players, “I’m enjoying this. “I wanted to be a manager and this is a challenge — for me, for the coaches, the staff.

“As I’ve said to them [the players], there’s no point walking with your head down.

Get on with it, do your work and people will respect it, no matter what the outcome for this football club is.

“And I’ve said to the players, this is an opportunity to show yourself. If you can come out of this with credit, you’ll be attractive to other owners and managers.”

As Buchan enters into he final year of his contract and The Rams in increasing financial difficulties, Celtic could land the player in January relatively cheaply as the English club would not want to risk losing him for free at the end of the current season.

Buchanan is one of a number of players the Hoops have been linked to in the last seven days and as we approach the opening of the January window, the speculation will reach fever pitch levels as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen his squad for the title run in.
