“I think he’s taking a calculated gamble” – Clyde pundit’s bizarre Postecoglou reason for Beale accepting Ibrox post

Celtic Park

Out of all the reasons for someone taking a job at Ibrox this has to be the best of the worst of them.

Pundits on Radio Clyde are known for their daft predictions and even outlandish title predictions, but this reason for taking the Rangers job has to be up there with some of the worst punditry in my living memory.

And I listen to all of them.

Michael Beale was appointed the Rangers manager about one week ago amid a blaze of publicity. And in that week we have already seen him magically transform the squad and rejuvenate the Ibrox players without a single shred of evidence.

But why did he accept the job now rather than back when Gerrard left? Prestige? Chances of winning silverware? Don’t be silly.

Here it is:

Speaking on The Big Scottish Football Show podcast, Steven Mill said, “I think he’s taking a calculated gamble that Ange Postecoglou might leave next summer and that might leave Celtic and a worse position than they are now.

Because I think if Postecoglou stays, Celtic are only going to get stronger.

Now I’m basing that on absolutely nothing, obviously, but I’m just looking at if Postecoglou continues to do a good job, say they went on to do a double or something again this season, then the teams from down south will be thinking he’s a very good manager we will take him.”

Basing the Celtic manager leaving on absolutely nothing is what these pundits do. Just like when they were telling us all that Ange’s job wasn’t safe around about this time last year.

At the very least, opinions should be formed around some facts. There are none here.

Ange has said on numerous occasions that he has a job to complete at Celtic. He is happy here. It’s time these pundit’s just let that go and let him get on with dominating Scotland for the next few years.
