The move for Aaron Hickey from Bologna is one that has been met with relative enthusiasm by the Celtic support. The left back seems a popular choice of the fans to fit into an area of the team that has been lacking quality since Kieran Tierney completed his £25m move to Arsenal.
With Boli Bolingoli and Diego Laxalt having failed miserably at the club, only Greg Taylor has gave a steady and decent account of himself and unless the Hoops strengthen that area of the team, Taylor will have no competition for his place.
Many see Hickey as a youngster that has the promise to develop into the Kieran Tierney mould but with the latest developments from Italy, it seems the Parkhead club have a fight on their hands to land their man.
A report from The Daily Record says Napoli are keeping tabs on Hickey and they have been encouraged by former manager, Gianni di Marzio, to make their move for the youngster, “Napoli need to make some serious changes to their team for the new season. They have to get rid of players and recruit well.
“I’m looking at someone like Aaron Hickey of Bologna – I see him as being a perfect fit for Napoli.
“Hickey is a very good, young player. He knows how to do both the defensive side of the game and he’s very dangerous in an attacking sense.
“Of course, it would depend on how much he is available for and how much Napoli wants to invest, but he has to be someone that would interest them.”
The last thing Celtic need is another European giant trying to court one of their targets so it looks like the club need to move and move quickly if they have any hope of capturing young Hickey and luring him to Glasgow.
