Brendan Rodgers in line for sensational swoop as bookies slash job odds

The results at the weekend proved one thing.

Football is a fickle business.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I absolutely get this is a results driven business.

Heaven knows Celtic fans know this more than most as that saying keeps getting rammed down our throats every time Ange Postecoglou’s team drop points, but you would think that only weeks after signing a contract extension would pretty much guarantee you job security.

Not if you’re Manchester United boss Ole Gunner Solskjaer. And especially not after getting skelped 5-0 at home from your bitter rivals.

And now that the dust settles on that result, it has emerged that former Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers, has risen as one of the front runners for the United job.

According to The Sun, ‘A leading agent has been instructed to contact some of the biggest names in the game, with Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag and Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers – a former Liverpool boss – also on the shortlist.

And this has been reflected in the bookies odds as Rodgers moves into second favourite, just behind Antonio Conte and ahead of Zinedine Zidane.

If Rodgers was appointed as manager it would be a sensational return to the top of football after his infamous Liverpool title crash were Steven Gerrard’s mistake cost the Northern Irishman the biggest prize in English football.

Rodgers will fancy this. And you can bet he will be saying, ‘Manchester United is the club I supported as a boy’ before Leicester City know what’s hit them!
