Anthony Joseph Gives Exciting Celtic Transfer Update

The deal to bring Georgios Giakoumakis was thought to be all but dead as soon as the Greek front man started negotiations with Werder Bremen.

Not because the German side are a bigger club than Celtic, but lets face it, the money the Bundesliga can offer plus the standard of competition would most likely be a more attractive option to any European player looking for their next big move.

According to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph, Giakoumakis is now said to be “weighing up” a move between Bremen and Celtic as his current side VVV-Venlo have now reduced their asking price to £3m following their relegation from the Eredivisie last season.

Giakoumakis scored and incredible twenty six goals in thirty games even although his side were battling relegation. He joined Venlo at the start of last season and, like Kyogo, scored a hat trick on his debut.

He also scored all four of Venlo’s goals in a 4-1 away win at ADO Den Haag so clearly the 26 year old has an eye for goal.

Joseph tweeted this morning:

With Bremen playing the Celtic way in the transfer market with a low opening bid, this will allow the hoops an opener to try and sneak in and steal Giakoumakis from under the noses of the German cracks.

With the expected departure of Odsonne Edouard, the Greek striker would be a welcome addition to the Hoops squad as Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths find themselves frozen out of Ange Postecoglou’s Parkhead rebuild.
