Aberdeen Embarrass Celtic Board With Stance On Crowd Attendance

As the current COVID continues, the vaccination program Scotland has undertaken has meant the crisis seems to be nearing towards it’s end.

As the country works towards it’s goal of Level 0 by the 9th August, football supporters across the land will be looking forward to getting back to watching their teams at the stadiums.

As Celtic were “delighted” with being allowed 2000 fans to attend the friendly against Preston North End, Aberdeen were pursuing a more ambitious plan to apply for 8200 fans to be allowed entry to their Premiership opening fixture against Dundee United.

In a statement about the allowance of fans into Paradise, Celtic said, “We’re delighted to announce the Club has been given permission for 2,000 supporters to attend our pre-season friendly match against Preston North End at Celtic Park on Saturday, July 17.

This is the maximum number of supporters we are allowed to welcome back to Paradise presently.

Bearing in mind the fanzone in Glasgow Green for the Euro’s was allowed THREE times that amount, it really is a farce that a 60,000 all seater outdoor stadium is allowed less than 5% of it’s maximum capacity.

Compare and contrast this to Aberdeen, who are looking at getting over 8000 of their supporters into their ground. In a statement by the club, the Dons set out their plans, “The Club has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare this application so we are ready to safely and efficiently welcome as many supporters back to Pittodrie as soon as we get confirmation from the Scottish Government on 13th July.

With a capacity of 22,200 this is a bold and ambitious plan by the Dons board to get their supporters back into the ground and it is a pity or own board does not display that same ambition.

I know we are still in the grip of a pandemic, but with the majority of the population in the midst of receiving their second vaccination, surely the Celtic board could have been more aggressive in trying to get permission for more than 2000 fans?

  1. What do you expect with the same incompetent board still running the club, just because we have a new manager and ceo means nothing as they still have to deal with DD and board.
