“I don’t like to grind mate” – Postecoglou slaps down ‘win is a win’ narrative and urges side to be more ‘direct’

Celtic keep their seven point lead intact at the top of the table with a turgid 2-1 win over Motherwell in what is, traditionally, a difficult place to go.

Goals from Kyogo and Maeda sealed the three points but many fans will say that winning whilst playing poorly is the mark of champions.

It is, but we all know Ange Postecoglou’s thoughts on performances and whilst I am in no doubt that he is happy at getting the three points, he was less than impressed with the performance.

As reported by The West Australian, Postecoglou said, “It was a bit of a grind. We never really got into a rhythm.

“When we play well, we move the ball quickly and find simple solutions. I thought we tried to be too cute and not play the obvious pass and trying to break through a little bit more direct.

“But away from home is not easy and to get another win is good. The fact we found a way again is credit to the lads.

“I don’t like to grind, mate, I prefer we play well, but you know over a course of a season that’s impossible.

“We have got to finish strong on Saturday (against Ross County) but we have had perfect league form in such fixture congestion.

“There wouldn’t be many teams in Europe that have gone through that period and had that level of results.”

Whilst I agree with the Celtic boss, we can’t always play that exciting and attacking football week in, week out.

We will get performances like this and as a supporter, as long as we pick up the three points then I will be happy.

Celtic now face Ross County on Saturday in what could be a match that sees us stretch our lead to 10 points should Rangers drop anything at Paisley.
