“The comparison I would make between Celtic and Rangers is” – Celtic fan takes Hugh Keevins to task over Champions League comparisons

Lisbon Lions Stand, Celtic Park

The Champions League campaign may be over but the fallout certainly isn’t.

As the dust settles on our participation in the competition, Celtic fans, in general seem fairly happy with our performances but disappointed in the results.

It’s a fair balancing act trying to look at the overall picture objectively when there is so much emotion still surrounding the results.

As the discussion from the pundits rage on, this Celtic fan wasn’t too happy with Hugh Keevins’ sweeping comparison of Celtic’s performances against Rangers.

He called Clyde 1 Superscoreboard and berated the veteran journalist, “I heard Hugh Keevins a minute ago saying who would be more unhappy. The Celtic side or the Rangers team.

Please Hugh, don’t compare us to the worst team in the Champions League.”

Keevins replied, “The fact of the matter is you’re both bottom.

I commended Celtic for their performance tonight. But overall, the group has amounted to two draws, four goals and bottom of the table.

You have to be wary of making that sound like an out and out triumph.

Rangers have lost six games on the bounce and the comparison I would draw between Rangers and Celtic is, it’s about the manner in which you go down.

Celtic tend to go down with a bit of valour. The Rangers performances have been summed up by a record defeat at Ibrox, by losing seven goals at home and being totally outplayed by Napoli.

But it still comes down to both, bottom of the group and it’s difficult to try and make that sound like a triumph.”

I would agree with that except no one is making our Champions League results sound like a triumph. Far from it.

The plaudits are for our style of play, not for losing.

So I think Keevins is a little confused here.

There is much for the Celtic fans to take from this campaign. So many positives, that is why many of us are looking to the future with hope and excitement and not doom and gloom like our rivals across the city.
