“Absolute shocker” – Mark Guidi savages Steven McLean over Celtic VAR controversy

Celtic Park

Thank Christ someone has come out and said it because the lack of accountability over this from the Scottish media has been frying my head.

The Celtic ‘penalty’ against VAR is being reported as a VAR error when, in fact, it was a controller error or, more specifically, a Steven McLean ‘honest mistake’.

It’s been far too easy for McLean to get off relatively scott-free for a decision that denied Celtic a clear penalty and Mark Guidi on Go Radio let it rip on last nights show, “They [Celtic] were denied a clear penalty kick.

We can’t get through tonight without touching on it. It was an absolute shocker that Celtic did not get a penalty kick.

I think my key point is, I think is very unfair on Nick Walsh for Steven McLean, the VAR official, not to flag that up and at least give Nick Walsh the opportunity to go and view it for himself, was a shocker.

Absolute shocker that with VAR in place, that even VAR got that wrong with the benefit of a replay.

And therein lies the issue.

Steven McLean. His historic misdemeanours against Celtic have been well highlighted over the last few days but at least someone, now, had the balls to call this out for what it was.
