Michael Stewart blast ‘ludicrous’ Ibrox refereeing

As Celtic prepare to face Dundee United at Tannadice this afternoon, the Hoops look to reclaim top spot by taking all three points back to Glasgow.

With *Rangers winning 4-0 at Ibrox yesterday, the Ibrox club sit atop the SPL. But it could, and should, have been a whole different story if match day referee Don Robertson sent off Sands for a clear red offence.

Ross County forward, Hiwula, was almost through on goal when Sands hauled him down.

Bizarrely, Robertson didn’t even award a free kick never mind brandish Sands’ second yellow and after that, Rangers went on to dominate the game.

No doubt, the Ibrox side got away with one and the three points stayed in Glasgow.

Speaking on Sportscene, Michael Stewart pulled no punches on Robertson’s performance, “Malky Mackay is right to be frustrated. They need everything to go their way if Ross County are going to get anything from the game. Forget a second yellow card, it’s a red card. It’s a ludicrous decision from the referee.

“I would love to know what Don Robertson thinks happens here. For it not to be a foul, a booking or a red card. It’s an incredible decision.

“Sands is in the wrong position, Hiwula has spun him. It’s not a difficult decision for the referee, because it’s so clear. When you look at the yellow card (first for Sands), they are so similar. As in, where they are on the park, the players involved.

“The difference is that Connor Goldson is covering the first one. It’s impossible to say what influence it would have had on the game. We just don’t know.”

While James McFadden added: “Forget the fact that he is on a yellow when it comes to the second one, it’s a red card.

“Giovanni van Bronckhorst is smiling because he knows his team have got away with one this week. It’s just incredible.

“There is nothing obstructing the referees view. How he can deem there is nothing there is incredible.”

Strangely, there has been no outcry from the Ibrox support on this ‘honest mistake’. Go figure.
