“I will continue to push and fight” – Reality bites as Brendan Rodgers addresses “sacked in the morning” chants

Karma is a bitch isn’t it?

Not that I like to see anyone lose their job, but the way Brendan Rodgers left Celtic back in 2019 means that if he lost his job at Leicester City this season, you would be hard pressed to find a Celtic fan with sympathy for him.

Me? I don’t want him to lose his job, but I wouldn’t be too hard pressed in proclaiming any sympathy for him.

Look at the facts. He left in a Treble Treble season when there was only three months of the season to go.

He tried to take our backroom staff. He also attempted to sign Callum McGregor as well.

And on top of that, he also managed to p*ss off players like Dembele and Boyata.

So it seems that as results at Leicester are stuttering and the club sit 19th in the table, Rodgers is under pressure. Especially after his team struggled to beat Stockport on penalties in the league cup midweek which spurred the fans ‘sacked in the morning’ chants.

As reported by Glasgow Live, Rodgers said of the speculation,  “I understand the position we’re in, so I can only imagine for the supporters that the club feels like a ball of frustration at the moment.

“If the club decides it needs to go in a different direction, that’s the way it is. That’s football and that’s management. I’m in here early in the morning until late at night, trying to find solutions and the best way forward.

“For a lot of the time, we have managed to do well for a club of this size. The expectation is not aligned with our finances in terms of where we should be competing. It doesn’t make us any less ambitious.

“For me, it’s a continuation of that: we’re always fighting. I’m experienced enough to know that if you don’t get the results, you can come under pressure. That’s normal. I will continue to push and fight to get the best results we can.”

The weekend, for Rodgers at least, will be very interesting.
