“I think Celtic would be looking to try and do better than him” – Alex Rae on Celtic transfer speculation. Sour grapes?

With Celtic being linked to all and sundry in the first four days of the window, the speculation is ramping up on Hibs forward Martin Boyle potentially joining the Hoops this January.

His impressive form has potentially caught the eye of Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou, and as the Aussie gaffer knows the Hibs front man well from his time of managing the Socceroos, the link to Boyle was always going to come.

Already Boyle has equalled his goal tally from last season netting 15 times for the Hibee’s so it does seem that the Aussie forward could have the desired quality to pull on a Hoops jersey.

Not so, says Alex Rae on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard. Talking of a potential move, Rae was kind of dismissive as he gave his opinion on the guy that slain his old club in the League Cup semi final just over six weeks ago, “I think he was linked a couple of years ago when Neil Lennon was the gaffer.

When I look at the right hand side, I look at Abada and how well he’s done. I think he’s on double figures already.

I look at James Forrest who’s till to come back into the mix as well. And you can also alternate Jota from the left to the right, depending on the personnel.

But to add another body in there I think he’d probably just be a bench filler at best for them. And I think he’d be an impact player.

But I think Celtic would be looking to try and do better than him.”

But is Rae correct or is he still smarting from the skelping Boyle gave Rangers at Hampden?
