“Turning on each other” – Celtic fan fury as the Police foodbank debacle rumbles on

If there wasn’t enough fury about this yesterday, there is today.

As the story continues to gather pace, details revealed this morning have shown that the Police had actually reported the foodbank collection vans to Glasgow City Council.

A report on Clyde 1 has stated that a council spokesman said, “Parking restrictions are in place around Celtic Park on match day to ensure key routes are kept clear for emergency service vehicles at all times.

“On Sunday Police Scotland made our parking enforcement team aware of a number of vehicles parked on London Road next to Celtic Park, which were in breach of these restrictions.

“Our parking attendants spoke to the drivers of the vehicles and asked that they move on from the restricted area.

“Only when the drivers refused to move on were penalty charge notices issued against the vehicles blocking a route for emergency vehicles on match day.

“We received no request for a dispensation for the vehicles to be parked at this location at this time.

“But we will liaise with the club and Police Scotland to ensure such vehicles can be parked appropriately in future.”

And as fury grows on social media about the incident, the silence from the club and the Police has been deafening.

Born Celtic reported yesterday at how MSP John Mason never covered himself in glory over this situation and that top Human Rights lawyer Aamer Anwar also got involved in this embarrassing shambles.

There will be more developments on this story over the coming days, I am sure of that.

  1. How are the police, Glasgow City Council and the parking wardens doing with their efforts in helping the poor this winter? What in God’s name were they thinking of, hindering others from helping to feed and clothe those in need. How utterly sad!

Well done to the Celtic supporters who collected so much at Paradise at the weekend? True to the spirit of the club’s foundations. I know who I admire for their generosity? The others mentioned above – not so much!
