“Fascist” – Open Goal scores an own goal as Celtic fans react to bizarre announcement

The Open Goal podcast. I can take it or leave it.

Don’t get me wrong, their interviews with Chris Sutton and Ange Postecoglou were first class but other than that, I can’t remember too many that caught my eye.

Now that’s not to say it’s a bad show because, clearly, it is very popular and it appeals to fans from all different clubs, but it’s just not my cup of tea.

Just like my blog isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It’s just the way of the world.

Every Celtic blog, like every podcast or YouTube channel caters for different tastes but what Open Goal seem to have done is sign up the ‘headline’ act without really thinking about the deeper meaning to it.

As they announced ex Celtic attacker, Paulo di Canio yesterday as the man who will be guest of honour at their Christmas show, it was met with a very mixed reaction.

di Canio was a very good player for the Hoops. After just one season at Paradise, the fiery Italian made 26 appearances for Celtic, scoring twelve goals.

But his genius on the park was also matched by his controversy off it. Not least matched by his well known political views, that even Celtic fans cannot, rightly, see past.

As Open Goal proudly made their announcement, it was met with a majority of derisory replies from Celtic fans:

Open Goal? Massive own goal here……
