“He was the brains behind the operation” – Former Celt reveals it wasn’t Gerrard behind Sevco success
Kris Commons. Much maligned by the Celtic fans for his part in Ronny Deila’s demise as Celtic gaffer, and also very much spurned as a pundit by the supporters as he seems to take delight in giving the club a kicking at every opportunity.
At least here, he is dishing out the booting’s in equal measure as he set his sights on former Rangers gaffer, Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard left Ibrox in a cloak and dagger mission that took the breath and sanity away of the majority of the Ibrox legions. But Commons seems to suggest that the credit for Rangers winning the league last season should not go to the Liverpudlian as he wasn’t the brains behind their apparent success.
As reported by The Daily Record, Commons said, “Gerrard and his entire coaching staff have upped sticks and left. Coming hot on the heels of the club posting an annual loss of £23.5million, suddenly things don’t look so rosy.
“You can’t underestimate just what a loss the likes of Michael Beale will be. Gerrard spoke countless times in the past about how he regards him as an outstanding coach.
“It was Beale who was the brains of the operation. He drilled the team into a certain shape and got them playing excellent football.
“Will the new manager be able to achieve something similar? Whether it’s Giovanni van Bronckhorst or someone else, there’s no guarantee of immediate success.
As Govan awaits the white smoke signal (contentious) to tell them when their new manager has been appointed, the latest panic is that a deal for number 1 candidate, Giovanni van Bronckhurst, may have broken down.
We all wait with baited breath.
