Villa fan makes sensational Gerrard claim. The circus just keeps rolling on!

I wrote this morning about a Rangers fan and their brilliant compensation claim the Ibrox club would be in to win if Gerrard left to take the Aston Villa job.

As the speculation mounts up, the Govan club’s fans are getting very tetchy and irate that their manager could ever think about leaving the mighty Gers to go to a club that could give him a proper transfer budget in the richest league in the world? No way he would ever leave right?

They are certainly hoping not but whilst the blue half of Glasgow frets, the maroon half of Birmingham sweats.

Some believe Gerrard just isn’t experienced enough and some believe his name carries some clout in the English game.

But, just how much clout?

This Villa fan called Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, and whilst he was wary about the Liverpool legend getting the Villa top job, he offered another brilliant, but just unbelievable alternative, “Just first of all get to my point, just to say I don’t think it’ll be a financial decision on Villa’s behalf or Gerard’s behalf.

I think that the previous caller doesn’t know quite how rich Villa’s owners are. They are multi multi billionaires who own American sports clubs.

If they need to pay compensation which I don’t believe is going to be £10 million anyway. If they need to pay it they will.

But my two points is I hope it doesn’t happen for Steven Gerrard and for Aston Villa. I don’t think the time is right.

“I don’t think the villa can afford to take [a gamble] and I don’t think Steven Gerrard can afford to take it either.

If Steven Gerrard goes to Villa, and you know the unthinkable happens [relegation] and we do go down, and better teams have gone down in the past. Then his reputation is ruined and he’s taken a step back and that Liverpool jobs forever away.

For me the next step for Gerard is probably the England job when Southgate moves on. Take the England job, and then after that, it would probably be a Liverpool job.”

And he was serious. The England job. For a guy that has has had only three years experience in management with over £40m spent for one trophy in a league that , wrongly, is always viewed as a ‘farmers league’ by the snobbery down south?

They would never allow it.

Because that would mean they would have to admit one thing. That Scottish football can’t be as bad as they would have you believe. Why else would they pick a manager from there to manage their national side?
