Video: Who is Celtic target Reo Hatate?

As the news broke tonight of Celtic’s pursuit of Japanese utility man, Reo Hatate, here at Born Celtic we take a look at who he is and where he came from.

Hatate currently ply’s his trade in Japan’s J League with Kawasaki Frontale.

Versatile, he can play either left back, central midfield or just behind the strikers. Coincidentally, three area’s that Celtic need to strengthen this transfer window.

Hatate was born in Suzuka, Japan and started his early career at Shizuoka Gakuen in 2013 and moved to Juntendo University in 2016.

After he graduated he made his professional debut for Hiroyuke Abe and the following season, he got his big move to Kawasaki Frontale.

It was at Frontale where he won his major domestic honours, picking up a J League title, Japanese Cup and the Japan Super Cup.

An experienced Japan u23 international, he now has four caps for his national side and is clearly very highly rated in his homeland.

At just 23 years old, Hatate fits the Ange Postecoglou profile of young, fit and dynamic and it looks like he could be the very man to slot into the vacant left back role or the number 10 role to act as cover for Tom Rogic.
