Griffiths battered with three major SFA charges

On loan Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths made his move to Dundee over the summer in a bid to get away and rebuild his career away from the Celtic spotlight.

As yet, he has failed to make his mark in front of goal but he has made his mark on the pitch but not in the way he had hoped. And now it has led to trouble for him off it.

During Dundee’s 2-0 defeat to St Johnstone at Dens Park in the Premier Sports Cup, Griffiths kicked a smoke bomb that was thrown onto the pitch back into the away fans end where it, thankfully, didn’t cause any injury to anyone in the crowd.

The matter was reported to the SFA and they have hit the striker with three charges:

  1. Disciplinary Rule 71: Bringing the game into disrepute.
  2. Disciplinary Rule 77: Violent Conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.
  3. Disciplinary Rule 202: No player shall commit Excessive Misconduct at a match.

If found guilty, the former Scotland striker could find himself on the end of a lengthy ban which will not please Dundee gaffer James McPake, who put his faith in the striker and gave him a chance to redeem his career.

Griffiths was also reported the Procurator Fiscal for his conduct at the match after being charged by Police Scotland for “reckless conduct”.

The problems just keep mounting for the much maligned striker and his SFA hearing will be held on Thursday 14th October.
