Celtic tipped to bring home Treble winning defender

As Celtic seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment with regards to injuries and not having the ability to strengthen because of the the transfer window being closed, The Daily Record compiled a number of free agents that the Hoops could look at to sign to make an impact on the first team.

Out of all the names mentioned, one struck me that was tipped for a summer return but, looking at Celtic’s current injury crisis, I’m not so sure would be a god move.

Jozo Simunovic was an interesting player for Celtic. Interesting in the fact that over the five years he spent at the club, he only managed to make 75 appearances. But over that time the amount of silverware he picked up is eye watering.

Five Scottish League winners medals, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups, not to mention out of all those a Treble was in the mix, the Croats medal haul is almost as impressive as the amount of time he spent out injured over his time at Celtic.

The 27 year old spent so long on the sidelines in his Hoops career he sat out 100 games in total for the club. And this is where Celtic’s interest, if there is any, should end.

The club simply cannot afford another player propping up the injury list as most likely Jozo would and even although he would be a free at 27 years old, there is too much of a risk element attached to entertaining this.

Plus the fact it’s the middle to front where the Hoops need to sharpen their focus, they would do well to avoid this move.

  1. The Daily Rangers shouldn’t even be acknowledged by any of us. It exists to do us down and big up Sevco. Don’t give them the slightest legitimacy by reading their tripe. Ignore it and move on.
