“Seems Like A Lot For A Guy That Hasn’t Played” – American Journalist Reveals Fee Celtic Would Face For Carter Vickers
As Celtic fans look forward to seeing their new stars in action after the international break, many of them will be thinking when the interest for new central defender Cameron Carter Vickers originated from.
This site reported back in July that Celtic were looking to pursue the American internationalist but the appeal of Carter Vickers seemed to dissipate until the last few hours of the transfer window.
To get more information on the deal, Hamish Carton of 67 Hail Hail interviewed prominent American journalist Larry Henry Jr and the reporter revealed the background behind the transfer and let slip the fee Celtic would be expected to pay should they wish to make the deal permanent, “At one point in the summer, it seemed, when I first kind of got word of who was interested it was Newcastle, Bournemouth and Celtic .
“The Celtic interest kind of came a little bit out of nowhere to me because obviously Newcastle needed some defensive help as well and Graham Higgins who’s an assistant there, worked with Cameron Carter Vickers at Luton Town where he was on loan.
“It seemed like Carter Vickers was going to get stuck at Tottenham and he wasn’t going to be playing much.
“Celtic get a guy who’s eager to play and Cameron gets a great atmosphere now coming to Glasgow and playing for Celtic and hopefully feature in Europe and also in Scotland.
“Tottenham would get a you know, a decent fee probably, I would think anywhere from three to four million pounds for him.
“Seems like a lot for a guy that hasn’t played first team football for that for club but again, he’s got a good amount of experience for his age when you look at a lot of the other Americans that are playing in Europe.”
The full interview can be viewed here and what was telling was the positivity from Henry Jr about this move and it seems the Hoops are getting a proper centre half.
