It has been quite an incredible few days in the footballing world.
I just wish it was only the football we were talking about and not the racist abuse aimed towards Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi.
The Japanese striker was subject to disgraceful racist abuse on Sunday as fans of the Ibrox club travelled to Ross County on a supporters bus. You don’t need me to tell you what was said as it has been well documented in the media and in Celtic forums and media pages.
With radio punditry shows wheeling out people that are simply not qualified to offer opinions on such matters, BBC Sportsound released a tweet after a discussion on last nights show that drew condemnation from all quarters.
The sports program decided to start a discussion on whether or not James Tavernier should emulate former Celtic captain Scott Brown and approach Kyogo before the match to offer a show of support.
Of course you do not need me to tell you that by simply asking that question already invalidates any gesture that is now made, if any was forthcoming by Tavernier, or it will paint him in bad light if there was nothing done. The *Rangers captain has been put in a no win situation.
Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph moved to condemn the tweet as he says they have now ‘diluted the issues around racism’.
This tweet was a follow up to the his first where he urged those in the media to think carefully before ‘making false comparisons’ which I assume was in reference to either Charlie Adam or Hugh Keevins contribution to the debate.
Joseph conducted himself with class and intellect, two qualities that, sadly, seem to be missing from the Scottish media “pundits”.
