“I Can See It Happening” – Former Celtic Striker Tips Postecoglou To Make ‘Champions League’ Signings

Off the back of two impressive Europa League performances, you have to wonder if Celtic would have made the Champions League group stages if they had not pandered to Eddie Howe and got Ange Postecoglou in earlier.

When you look at the signings the Aussie gaffer brought in and how they are performing already, they should be gracing Europe’s premier competition listening to Zadok the Priest.

If only eh?

Former Celtic striker, Frank McAvennie has urged the Hoops gaffer to rectify the mistakes of past windows and start making ‘Champions League’ signings to build a team able to qualify and compete with the big boys next season.

Speaking to Football Insider, the enigmatic ex Hoops player said, “We still need more players, we need to compete.

“My idea of Celtic is getting to the Champions League group stage every year. That’s where they should be.

“I’m not saying we should be winning the Champions League or the Europa League.

“That’s not asking too much, then you get to play against the big boys.

“At the worst, you can finish third and get in the Europa League.

“That’s not me aiming too high, that’s realistic for Celtic and what should be going for.

“Ange needs to buy with that in mind and I think he will. They need to be signings who can take us there.“

“They need to be soon, next week would be ideal and I can see it happening.”

And going by Ange’s business already, you have to trust that he will and is doing that. With the introduction of Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada, the Celtic supporters have caught just a small glimpse at what type of player Ange wants at Celtic.

And it is exciting.
